Networking

OMHRA’s goal is to keep our members aware of changes and emerging trends affecting their profession, facilitate the exchange of knowledge and best practices, and support networking among municipal HR professionals.

Our members network through:

  • Two in-person events each year – our Spring Workshop in April and our Fall Conference in September.
  • Webinars
  • Communities of Practice which meet virtually; and
  • Online discussion forum in our Members Lounge.

Human Resource Designations

The Ontario Municipal Human Resources Association and the Ontario Municipal Management Institute (OMMI), in partnership, have continued to develop a formal designation for those members responsible for Human Resource functions in local government.

“My first introduction to OMHRA occurred when I attended an OMHRA Conference. I immediately felt “at home”. I was blown away with the scope of education and information-sharing that OMHRA provides and promotes. Networking with Human Resources colleagues from the Public Sector, results in mutual understanding and support. This is further reinforced through email Alerts, further training sessions throughout the year and the development of the LRIS database, providing timely information and updates to further strengthen this chain of support.”

Director of Human Resources
County of Wellington

There are two levels of HR designations for those who qualify for the Certified Municipal Manager (CMM) designation; they are a Human Resource Specialist and a Human Resource Professional designation.

The CMM Human Resources enhancement came about following two years of joint development by both associations. The additional Human Resource requirements in both education and job responsibilities were primarily determined by OMHRA and will be verified by the OMHRA Education Committee and Board of Directors, prior to the designation being awarded by the Institute’s Policy & Accreditation Committee.

The expanded designations are as follows:

  • CMM HR Specialist
  • CMM I HR Specialist
  • CMM II HR Specialist
  • CMM III HR Specialist
  • CMM II HR Professional
  • CMM III HR Professional

OMHRA formally recognizes recipients who have been awarded the designation at the annual Spring Workshop and Fall Conference held each year.

The CMM Guide Supplement – Human Resources and the Supplemental Application, provide a more detailed explanation of the process and are available by visiting http://ommi.on.ca, calling OMMI at 905-434-8885, or by emailing ommi@bellnet.ca.

Labour Relations Information System (LRIS)

OMHRA’s proprietary LRIS database contains over 800 searchable in-force and over 1,000 historical collective agreements for municipalities and local boards, agencies and commissions across Ontario. Access to the LRIS database is included with your OMHRA membership.

Users can search, compare and produce reports on specific agreement terms, such as salary and benefit information, within a specific organization, or between multiple organizations.

In addition, OMHRA members are able to participate in moderated, confidential discussions that will keep them up-to-date on collective bargaining trends.
